THE QUR’AN IS A SOURCE OF CURE AND MERCY FOR MUMINS

First Khutbah

pembukaan4

Dear Friday Jamaah,

If we try to express the most important feature of the Qur’an in one sentence, we would say that it is a book of hidayat (guidance). We can say this because, when its message was revealed, it guided the people who had been floundering in denial and polytheism and who had been fighting against material and physical diseases like injustice, discord, envy, jealousy,
stinginess, and so forth. It has become a guide that distinguishes haq (truth) from bâtil (superstition).

The Qur’an, our holy book, will maintain the feature of being a guide until the qiyamat (doomsday). As a compilation of the words of the divine, it removes every kind of suspicion, discord, polytheism, denial, ignorance, and deviation from the hearts of the believers; guides them to faith, wisdom, and goodness; helps rescue them from torment; and leads them to paradise.

My Dear Brothers,

There is mercy in the Qur’an, as the Qur’an contains the needed knowledge for both worldly and religious life to go on in a righteous, healthy, and good way. It brings great rewards for those who read it properly. It turns difficulty into easiness and eradicates faults and sins.

The religion that the Qur’an brought is the right religion; the knowledge that it gave is the true knowledge; the path that it summoned is the straight path. It also calls to straightness and honesty in the moral and material life, and in this way, it aims to eradicate superstition completely.

The following has been decreed in a verse in the sûrat al-Isrâ:
isra 17 verse 82
“And We send down of the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe, and it increases the zâlimûn nothing but loss.” [Al-Isrâ, 17/82.]

In this verse, the world is likened to a hospital that is virtually full of various disease, trouble, and annoyance. Similarly, the Prophet (s.a.w.) is compared to a physician and the Qur’an to a healing drug and necessary nutrient.
The Qur’an is a guide to rescue the people from the darkness of ignorance and deviation. It summons to discern that which is right and true. In addition, it suggests a definitive healing prescription for ethical and social disease.

As known, spiritual support for a patient as well as medical treatment is very important and effective. Spiritual support is even more important in cases in which there is no medical cure available. In this context, the curative effect of reading the Qur’an and praying during the physical or psychological illnesses to the treatment process should not be denied.

The best du’a for health in the Qur’an is the du’a of Prophet Ayyub a.s. as in Suratul Anbiya (21) verse 83

al anbiya 21 v 83

And [mention] Job, when he called to his Lord, “Indeed, adversity has touched me, and you are the Most Merciful of the merciful.” [Al Anbiya 21/83.].

In this verse, Prophet Ayyub a.s. after 7 years suffering from illness, he reported to Allah that he gets illness, then, he praised to Allah that Allah is the Most Merciful compare to the other merciful. Ibnul Qoyyim in Al Fawaid suggests to recite this du’a 7x with full our hearth and believe to cure the desease. Du’a from The Qur’an is the best du’a because The Qur’an is Kalamullah.

My Dear Brothers

The Qur’an is also a cure against confusion, fear, and Shaitan’s inspirations. It connects mumins’ hearts to Allah (s.w.t.), calms and makes the fellow peaceful, and inculcates hope of life.

Additionally, it is a cure against all contemptible desire, nastiness, stinginess, jealousy, and devilish whispers. Furthermore, it is a means of the cure for social disease, which subverts the structure of society, disrupts trust
and peace, and damages health.

I finish my khutbah with another verse relevant to the subject:

yunus 10 v 57

“O mankind! There has come to you an admonition from your Lord, and a healing for that which is in your breasts, a guidance and a mercy for the believers…” [Yûnus, 10/57.]
