Biography of Muhammad Reza Kahar Aziz, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.


Muhammad Reza Kahar AZIZ was born in Bandar Lampung, Indonesia in 1981. He received Bachelor and Master (Cum Laude) degrees, in 2004 and 2012, respectively, from Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Bandung, Indonesia. His PhD in Information Science degree was obtained from Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Ishikawa, Japan, in 2016.

In 2004 – 2005, Dr. Reza was a Microwave Radio Service Engineer and Project Coordianator, Siemens Indonesia. Then, he had been with Ericsson Indonesia (EID) as a Broadband Solution Engineer for Wireless and Optical Transport in 2005 – 2010, where he was also selected as Radio Microwave Champion for Indonesia. After that in 2011, he served as Teaching Assistant in ITB and Adjunct Lecturer in Institut Teknologi Telkom (ITT). Since 2012, he has joined Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA), Lampung, Indonesia, as Teaching Staff. He also received Graduate Research Program (GRP) and Doctor Research Fellow (DRF) from JAIST in 2013 – 2016.

Dr. Reza achievements started since Elementary School of SDN 2 Teladan Rawa Laut, Lampung with the top three rank in 6th grade in 1992. Then he continued to obtain the first rank in his class of the 3rd grade of Junior High School of SMPN 2 Bandar Lampung in 1995 and 1996. After that, Dr. Reza was selected as the best male student in Senior High School of SMUN 2 Bandar Lampung, also the first position in Tanjungkarang Timur District, and the second place in Bandar Lampung City in 1998. He also represented his Senior High School for the competition of Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics Olympiads.

Dr. Reza received award of 10% top performer Ericsson Indonesia employee in 2009 and ITB Voucher Scholarship in 2011. Furthermore, he received Best Paper Award in 9th Asia Modelling Symposium (AMS) 2015, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and 2nd Symposium of Future Telecommunication and Technologies (SOFTT) 2018, Badung, Indonesia. JAIST Foundation Research Grant for Students was obtained in 2017 for attending the European Wireless Conference 2016 in Oulu, Finland. He also received research grants from ITERA in 2017 and 2018 as principle and co investigators.

He has more than 20 scientific contributions including 4 journals, 4 Japan patents (3 grants), a newsletter, 12 conference proceedings, 3 theses, and 2 books, with 52 citations and h-index of 5 in Google Scholar and 4 in Scopus. His research interests include wireless communication systems, signal processing, information theory, radio geolocation, factor graph, antennas, and electromagnetic.

He is currently a member of IEEE and is serving as a reviewer and TPC for IEEE conferences, e.g., ICC, Globecom, VTC, other conferences, as well as several journals including IEEE Trans on Vehicular Tech, with total 85 verified review by Publons. He was also TPC-chair of ICoSITeR 2016.

Biografi Dalam Bahasa Indonesia

Muhammad Reza Kahar AZIZ lahir di Bandar Lampung, Indonesia, pada tahun 1981. Ia mendapatkan gelar Sarjana dan Master (Cum Laude) berturut-turut pada tahun 2004 dan 2012 dari Program Studi Teknik Elektro (Telekomunikasi), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Bandung, Indonesia. Gelar PhD Information Science didapatkan dari Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Ishikawa, Jepang, pada tahun 2016.

Tahun 2004 – 2005, Dr. Reza menjadi Microwave Radio Service Engineer dan Project Coordianator, Siemens Indonesia. Saat ini Dr. Reza sedang mengurus administrasi untuk mendapatkan Jabatan Fungsional Lektor 200 (Assistant Professor).

Pencapaian Dr. Reza dimulai sejak di SDN 2 Teladan Rawa Laut, Bandar Lampung dengan ranking ketiga pada saat Kelas 6 pada tahun 1992. Kemudian ia terus memperoleh ranking 2 umum di SMN 1 Kedaton, Bandar Lampung pada saat tahun pertama semester pertama. Kemudian ia pindah sekolah ke SMPN 2 Bandar Lampung dengan selalu mendapatkan rangking pertama di dalam kelas selama tahun ketiga tahun 1995/1996. Setelah itu pada tahun 1998 Dr. Reza terpilih sebagai Siswa Teladan di in SMUN 2 Bandar Lampung, dimana menempati posisi pertama pada kompetisi Kecamatan Tanjungkarang Timur, serta posisi kedua pada tingkat Kota Bandar Lampung. Ia juga selama SMU selalu mewakili dalam kompetisi Olimpiade Matematika, Kimia, dan Fisika.

Dr. Reza menerima penghargaan 10% top performer karyawan Ericsson Indonesia pada tahun 2009 and ITB Voucher Scholarship pada tahun 2011. Ia juga menerima Graduate Research Program (GRP) dan Doctor Research Fellow (DRF) dari JAIST pada tahun 2013 – 2016. Lebih lanjut lagi, ia menerima dua penghargaan Best Paper dari 9th Asia Modelling Symposium (AMS 2015) di Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia dan 2nd Symposium of Future Telecommunication and Technologies (SOFTT 2018) di Bandung, Indonesia. JAIST Foundation Research Grant for Students (Travel Grant) ia dapatkan untuk menghadiri Konferensi Internasional European Wireless (EW 2016) di Oulu, Finland. Ia juga menerima He also received Hibah Mandiri untuk penelitian dari ITERA pada tahun 2017.

Dr. Reza sudah memberikan hampir dari 30 kontribusi ilmiah termasuk 4 artikel jurnal, 4 Paten Jepang (3 diantaranya sudah mendapatkan Grant Patent), sebuah newsletter di COST IC1004, 12 prosiding konferensi, 3 tesis Sarjana hingga PhD, dan dua buku, dengan jumlah sitasi sebanyak 52 dan h-index 5 di Google Scholar, serta h-index 4 di Scopus. Topik yang ia minati dalam penelitian adalah wireless communication systems, signal processing, information theory, radio geolocation, factor graph, antennas, and electromagnetic.

Saat ini ia merupakan anggota IEEE dan sudah eligible dan dalam tahap persiapan untuk mengajukan sebagai Senior Member dengan pengalaman kerja profesional yang sudah 12 tahun (syarat Senior Member IEEE adalah pengalaman kerja di atas 10 tahun). Ia juga menjadi seorang reviewer dan technical program committee (TPC) untuk konferensi internasional IEEE diantaranya ICC, Globecom, VTC, dan konferensi lainnya baik internasional dan nasional.

Berikutnya, ia pun menjadi reviewer pada beberapa jurnal internasional dan nasional journals termasuk IEEE Transaction on Vehicular Technology (TVT) yang merupakan jurnal enam terbaik di dunia untuk bidang telekomunikasi. Hingga saat ini ia sudah me-review sebanyak 85 review yang sudah diverifikasi oleh Publons. Pada tahun 2016, Dr. Reza menjadi TPC-chair untuk ICoSITeR.
